The Swedish Royal Court released the first photo of their newest member yesterday on their official website and social media accounts. The image shows the little royal in his car seat with his parents, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia outside their home of Villa Solbacken. Big brother, one-year-old Prince Alexander is not featured.

On 31 August, Princess Sofia gave birth to a healthy baby boy at Danderyd Hospital at 11:24 am. The new prince weighs 3400 g and is 49cm long.

His birth was announced in a press release from the Royal Court saying, "The Office of The Marshal of the Realm is delighted to announce that HRH Princess Sofia gave birth to a healthy child Thursday the 31 August 2017 at 11.24 am at Danderyd Hospital.

"Both mother and child are in good health".

At 3 pm Swedish time, Prince Carl Philip held a press conference in the auditorium of the hospital where he revealed the sex, weight and length of the child. A short time later, the Royal Court released messages of congratulations from the Royal Family and the Hellqvist family.

The Prince's name and title will be revealed by the King in a cabinet meeting at 11:15 am on Monday, 4 September. A Te Deum service will be held an hour later in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace. He is the sixth grandchild of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia and is sixth in line to the Swedish throne.

Official images of the happy family are expected sometime in the next week.

The christening will likely be in around three months. Princess Madeleine, the younger sister of Carl Philip and Sara Hellqvist, the younger sister of Sofia, are expected to be two of the godparents.
