Swedish royals host Representation Dinner

Every year, King Carl XVI Gustaf hosts several Representation Dinners at the Royal Palace of Stockholm. Yesterday it was time for the special Representation Dinner, the “Sweden Dinner”.

After the 40th anniversary of King Carl XVI Gustaf’s ascension to the throne, a new kind of Representation Dinner was introduced, the Sweden Dinner. Ever since 2013, it has become a new tradition that the King hosts such a dinner each year. With the Sweden Dinner, the Swedish Royal Family wants to pay attention to people who have made significant efforts locally, regionally or nationally.

This year 160 guests were invited to the Sweden Dinner. The guests included representatives from culture, business, education, sports and associations from the 21 counties as well as governors. The guests were welcomed by the King, Queen, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel and Prince Carl Philip. Princess Sofia missed out because of her maternity leave after the birth of her son Prince Gabriel. The King’s youngest daughter Princess Madeleine and her husband Chris O’Neill returned to London after spending their summer in Sweden.

The dinner took place in the “White Sea” room, the same room in which Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia hosted their wedding dinner. The guests were treated to a three-course menu consisting of many vegetables and fish. The guests were strategically seated so that all the members of the Royal Family were able to speak with a diversity of people from the different counties in Sweden.

Much attention was paid to the table decorations. It consisted of dahlia flowers in various shapes and colours and beautiful candle holders. The porcelain was a gift from the Swedish government for the 70th birthday of the King. The Royal Family was also fully dressed up but without orders and tiaras. Crown Princess Victoria wore a beautiful pink gown from the H&M Conscious Collection. Queen Silvia, on the other hand, wore a purple dress from Yukki as the fashion team of UFO No More figured out.
