The Duchess of Cambridge reveals that Princess Charlotte loves to dance

The Duchess of Cambridge revealed on Wednesday that Princess Charlotte has been taking dance lessons and "absolutely loves to dance."

The Duke & Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry spoke to Tamara Rojo, director of the English National Ballet, at the White Gardens at Kensington Palace after touring the memorial to Prince William's late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. During the tour, they met directors of the six charities she retained patronage of at the time of her death.

Diana had a lifelong passion for dance, as Prince William recalled, "She loved dancing, she was a fantastic dancer."

As the brothers and Catherine met with the charity directors on Wednesday, Prince Harry reportedly asked each to tell them a story about Diana.

Rojo told them how many productions were staged because of Diana and her fundraising efforts, saying, "That's something we celebrate."

"I remember her showing me ballet shoes she had been given, and she was so proud of them," Prince William revealed.

Her eldest son also revealed that they'd been looking at her music collection, "and there's some quite eclectic stuff in there. She was elated by the skill."

Diana was pictured over the years dancing at various balls – perhaps most famously at the White House in 1985 when she was pictured twirling with John Travolta. The actor later recalled it as a highlight of his life.

She even performed at the Royal Opera House with Wayne Sleep in 1985, during a show for private supporters of the Royal Ballet, and had managed to keep rehearsals secret not only from the press but from Prince Charles as well.

Sleep recalled rehearsing with Diana recently in The Guardian, saying that "the audience gasped when Diana appeared as if they'd all taken one huge breath."

"The routine had a bit of everything: jazz, ballet, even a kickline…I remember thinking, ‘Don't drop the future Queen of England.'"

The pair danced to "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel, and the routine poked fun at their height difference: Diana was 5'11", and Sleep was 5'2".

Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge were also invited to the "My First Ballet" programme offered by the English National Ballet, which Prince William accepted, "We will definitely have to come."
