Queen Letizia presides over opening of 2017/2018 vocational training course

Her Majesty Queen Letizia was in Teruel, Spain yesterday to preside over the opening of the 2017/2018 Vocational Training Course at Secondary Education Institute Second of Chomón.

Accompanied by Minister of Education, Culture and Sport, Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, and Segundo de Chomón director Javier Edo, Queen Letizia began her visit in the Automotive Workshop where she met with students who demonstrated the diagnosis and repair of vehicle faults. She continued on to classrooms in the subjects of electronics, computer science and aesthetics, meeting with and observing the work of students with varying levels of educational experience. The Queen was seen keenly observing the students’ work as she learned more about the programs and coursework that they were undertaking.

Following her tour, Queen Letizia uncovered a commemorative plaque in the institute’s library to mark the official opening of the 2017/2018 Vocational Training Course. She then attended a brief meeting with the management team, department heads and a representative of the Chomón Secondary School Student Council. Others in attendance included the Mayor of Teruel, María Emma Buj, the President of Aragon, Francisco Javier Lambán, the President of the Cortes de Aragón, Violeta Barba, Justice of Aragon, Fernando García Vicente and other authorities from the state department and school.

Before leaving Queen Letizia spoke with a number of the students to learn more about their experiences with the program.

Founded in 1929, Second of Chomón is a public centre offering standardised education and professional training qualifications. The school has programs in secondary education as well as basic professional training in the fields of electricity and electronics, vehicle maintenance and hairdressing and aesthetics. They also offer Bachelor degrees in Science, Humanities and Social Sciences and medium and higher education training cycles in fields such as micro-computer systems, electromechanical machinery, industrial robotics and management in computer systems for automotive.
