The Countess of Wessex and Sarah, Duchess of York turn city brokers for 9/11 fundraiser

The Countess of Wessex

The Countess of Wessex was joined by Sarah, Duchess of York and a variety of celebrities on Monday morning as they took to the trading floor in aid of the annual BGC Partners charity day.

The annual event is held each year to honour the memory of the 658 employees who died in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York in 2001, and the entire profits are donated to good causes.

Sophie and Sarah were among those who stepped into the role of city traders for the morning as they closed deals worth billions hoping to raise money for charity.

The Countess attended the event in the capacity of President of the charity Brainwave, which supports children with disabilities. From manning the phones to rushing around the trading floor, all money raised goes to charity.

Sarah Ferguson, who was previously married to the Duke of York, attended the event representing the charity Children in Crisis.

Other famous faces who attended the event include singer Cheryl Cole, actress Keira Knightley, comedian Alan Carr and celebrity cook Mary Berry.

The BGC Charity Day has been held annually for over a decade now and has raised approximately $137 million globally since it started in 2004.

The company says: “[The] Charity Day is our way of turning a tragic day into one that is positive and uplifting by helping others.”
