Queen Sonja to visit Denmark in October

Her Majesty Queen Sonja of Norway will visit Denmark in October. In Denmark, the Queen will officially open a new art exhibition at the gallery "CLAY" in the city of Tommerup. The opening will take place on 1 October. CLAY Ceramics Museum opens the exhibition "Large formats - clever hands" on the same day. Norway's Queen Sonja has agreed to open the exhibit; also, the Danish Minister of Culture Mette Bock and Norway's Ambassador to Denmark Ingvard Havnen will participate in the opening.

Her Majesty will only attend this event, according to the official press release from the Norwegian Royal Court. The Queen is expected to spend only one day in Denmark before returning to Norway. There will be no members of the Danish Royal Family at the opening of the exhibition.

In the press release from CLAY, they describe themselves like this:

"For 30 years, the Tommerup workshop has built a special international status as the place where no ceramic task seems too big or too difficult. With the exhibition "Large Formats – Clever Hands", the CLAY Ceramics Museum commemorates the anniversary with a presentation of a wide range of works that have come out of the furnaces in Tommerup for three decades."

The opening of the exhibition is a closed event. The exhibit "Large formats - clever hands" will open to the public on 3 October.

Queen Sonja has always been very interested in art and is a competent artist herself. She has created a large number of art objects and cooperated with numerous great artists, including Kjell Nupen. Her Majesty has, for many years, handed out "The Queen Sonja Print Award" which is awarded every second year. Until 2014, this prize was exclusively intended for artists from the Nordic nations, but in 2014 it was made into an international award. That same year, the Queen established a brand new award "The Kjell Nupen Memorial Grant" in memory of her dear friend, Kjell Nupen.
