Monday evening, Prince Nikolai of Denmark's 18th birthday was celebrated with pomp and splendour. Grandmother, Queen Margrethe, had invited the whole family to a great dinner on the royal yacht “Dannebrog”. One royal did not attend the family dinner. Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark unfortunately had to be abroad during the celebration of his nephew.
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik is currently on a longer journey in South Korea. According to the Crown Prince's calendar published by the Royal Court, Crown Prince Frederik will participate in the IOC Coordination Commission in Pyeongchang in South Korea from 29 August to 31 August. Pyeongchang, located in the Gangwon province about 200 kilometres from the capital Seoul, is the host city for the Winter Olympics 2018, which will take place from 9 to 25 February 2018.
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark has decided to continue his work for the International Olympic Committee for another eight years. The Danish Crown Prince has been working for the International Olympic Committee since October 2009 and has done an excellent job. His tenure was due to expire in September of this year, but he has decided that, if re-elected, he will continue working for the next eight years.
The members of the committee are to be selected through an election, but the IOC president is sure that His Royal Highness will win by a significant amount as there are few candidates who are more suitable.
Nikolai is the eldest child of Prince Joachim of Denmark and his first wife, Alexandra, Countess of Frederiksborg. He is also the eldest grandchild of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark. His Highness has three younger siblings. Nikolai William Alexander Frederik, currently seventh in line to the Danish throne.
He has been Prince of Denmark since birth and Count of Monpezat since 2008.
