Bruce Springsteen Performing |
The line-up for the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the third Invictus Games next month in Toronto reads like a whose-who of Canadian and international music royalty. The American singer Bruce Springsteen will close out the event on September 30th; the Rockstar posted the announcement on his website on Monday, August 28th.
Alessia Cara, Sarah McLachlan and The Tenors will perform during the Opening ceremony on 23 September at the Air Canada Centre. Pageantry will follow with the parade of nations; members from Canada's Airforce will also participate and the official flag will be raised to mark the start of the week-long games.
Bryan Adams, Kelly Clarkson, Bachman and Turner and Couer de Pirate will also perform during the closing Ceremonies.
Springsteen wrote about the honour of performing for the world's veterans at these games that celebrate the athletic achievements of the 500-plus wounded, ill, and injured service members from over a dozen countries.
"At the Invictus Games, it's not just about the hurdles that competitors experienced during competition, but about overcoming the obstacles that life has presented them," he said.
He went on to say: "The Games are a remarkable opportunity for brothers and sisters in arms to join forces and demonstrate the true strength of their spirit. It is an absolute honor and privilege to perform for them at the Closing Ceremony as a send-off to a week of competition in Toronto."
John Tory, Mayor, City of Toronto said about The Boss's return: "This is a great opportunity for the City of Toronto and the country. The much-anticipated return to Toronto by Bruce Springsteen at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games is a wonderful tribute to the military families who we are hosting in Toronto next month."
