Before the scholarship ceremony the Crown Princess, who is patron of the Heart Foundation, met with a group of children with congenital heart defects and their families.
During the scholarship ceremony the Crown Princess gave a speech and conducted the presentation of the Heart Association's research grants to three scientists.
During her speech, Princess Mary said;
"We should welcome the important results that Danish heart researchers have achieved and continue to strive to achieve. We have come very far in the control and treatment of cardiovascular disease both in Denmark and internationally".
"Almost none of us go through life untouched by cardiovascular disease. Either because we get hit or we become caregivers to a family member, or because we know a close friend or friend who is a heart patient".
